A Year of Stories/Week 4

Eleven

This week's story was an easy one...my littlest little turned 11! And as all of us momma's know, 11 is so much older than 10! For the last eleven years, Sophie has been tenaciously learning everything there is to know about every animal on the planet especially sea life and more specifically whales. She has already chosen her college based on it having one of the best marine biology programs on the east coast; she knows where she wants to live afterwards; she knows that her career will involve animal advocacy at the highest level. And I believe her.

This weekend we celebrated her eleven years by first driving out to Virginia Beach to go whale watching. This boat ride guarantees whale sightings or you get to come back and ride again for free. We had done this cruise before and the whales really do put on a show. One of the most amazing things to see. We got there a little early so of course had to take a quick walk on the beach. The sky was glorious and I knew immediately I would be shooting black and white images.

So...with snow on the ground, artic winds, and rough waters, we headed out on the boat. And despite the elements and the disappointing fact that the whales never made it to the party, Sophie was in her happy place.

We then spent the rest of the weekend thawing out and celebrating with friends and family. This is Sophie's eleven...

Now don't forget to keep following our circle to see what my talented friend,  Sonja Stich  was up to this week!

  6. Happy birthday! In my secret alternative life I also wanted to be a marine biologist - I admire that she figured out her passion so early. You've captured her day so beautifully!
